Challenge
The architect wanted to keep the unobstructed views of the exterior, but also allow light without intense heat and blinding glare.
Solution
CS Perform perforated Sunshades are the dominant aesthetic feature on this building’s facade. Architects Verner Johnson and Associates specified 30” deep Perform Sunshades to cover the entire glass front of the museum. The building is designed to connect interior and exterior spaces and the Perform sunshades attached to the curtain wall provide unobstructed views of the exterior. Entering sunlight is dappled allowing light without intense heat and blinding glare.

A Smithsonian Institution Affiliate, the History Center includes three floors of permanent and temporary exhibition space focusing on 12,000 years of Florida history. Exhibits include coverage of the Tampa Bay area’s first native inhabitants, Spanish Conquistadors, and historical figures who shaped the area’s history. The History Center features a museum store, a research center, a map gallery, event hall, and a café. Located along the Riverwalk in Tampa’s bustling Channel District, the History Center serves residents and nearly 3 million tourists annually.
