During its recent renovations, the Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) sought reliable wall protection that was both durable and interesting to children in its pediatric departments at three of the networks' major locations. Bernadorn Haber Holloway Architects and MKSD Architects used Acrovyn by Design® to create soothing yet exciting murals of marine life and safari scense in over 20 areas across the network.

In July 2015, the new Golisano Children's Hospital opened its doors in Rochester, NY. Ballinger and ArtHouse Design collaborated to create an engaging space for young patients and visitors which included a range of fun, whimsical designs. Each of the hospitals nine floors had a unique theme expressed on the walls using Acrovyn® by Design Wall Protection. This customizable product provided the unlimited design possibilities the team desired in order to offer an enriching, comfortable patient experience as well as useful wayfinding throughout the hospital.

When the Pasadena Independent School District was planning a new structure to replace the original Gardens Elementary School, the design team decided to cover the school’s entrance wall with an enormous mural of its mascot. Having used Acrovyn by Design previously in a high school building project, the school district knew that it could utilize this product to brand the building with the colorful logo on a 12-foot wide by 10-foot tall wall. On Gardens Elementary School’s opening day, the students enthusiastically ran to touch the Garden Gator on the entrance wall as they arrived at their brand new school.

Berkeley Medical Center’s 40-year old progressive-care unit required a major infrastructure upgrade and challenged architects and designers to create a comfortable, bright space for patients. In early February 2016, the opening of a new 13-bed progressive care unit on the second floor replaced semi-private patient rooms with private patient rooms and Acrovyn by Design combined a custom look and durability that created a patient environment with a hospitality appeal.

Project: Lewisburg Children's Museum
Lewisburg Children’s Museum exhibits needed wall coverings that could combine custom, engaging artwork with a child-proof layer of protection and would be easy for volunteers to maintain. Murals had to be touchable, cleanable, and resistant to frequent impact. Five exhibits within the museum incorporated Acrovyn by Design® graphic wall coverings to visually transform and protect murals. The museum opened to rave reactions from children and parents alike. In addition to providing design services, CS installed the wall coverings. With such vivid imagery, Lewisburg Children’s Museum is equipped to deliver its education-focused mission to the local community with the peace of mind that comes from choosing CS products and services.

Project: Choctaw Nation Wellness Center
Each facility’s walls were graphically tailored to fit the layout of each space by utilizing Acrovyn by Design’s unlimited visual possibilities. Doorways, windows, wall heights, and equipment were transformed to reflect the community’s culture and delight the patients within each clinic.

The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex worked with DesignShop to update and stylize its 3D IMAX Theater lobby and concession area to reflect the largest artificial body in orbit—the International Space Station. Acrovyn by Design® was used on the corridor walls and lobby doors showcasing realistic floor-to-ceiling graphics of astronauts floating through the Space Station to enhance the interior while also addressing the wall and door protection needs.

Clinicians at CPMC’s California Campus perform more than 4,600 CT scanner procedures each year. In mid-2014, the goal of the design and architect team was to create a healing environment for patients where they will receive excellent care through the use of state-of-the-art technology. The CT scan room was transformed by combining custom imagery that encourages relaxation with innovative materials that can withstand frequent use. Because Acrovyn by Design was chosen for the renovation, patients are now welcomed to CPMC’s CT scan room by a scene resembling a tropical paradise, with blue skies and playful dolphins.

The college’s administrators wanted to transform a single, open nursing lab and a classroom into three protected, unique spaces at Pellissippi State Community College. Each space allows students to practice their nursing skills in a unique, flexible environment. It was essential that the walls in the nursing skills lab could contend with a busy, educational atmosphere. This required them to be durable and easy to clean. The solution included Acrovyn by Design on partition walls, designating separate areas.

Completed in the fall of 2014, Pasadena Independent School District’s new Dr. Kirk Lewis Career Technical High School (CTHS) requested the help of IBI Group to add design interest to its interior walls. Acrovyn by Design provided interior designers Sylvia Hajo, RID, LEED AP ID+C, and Rutu Sathia, LEED AP ID+C, with the unlimited visual freedom they needed for a custom aesthetic. The design team brightened the school’s corridors with bright, bold, relevant and innovative graphics that immediately became a popular backdrop for student selfies and the school’s social media posts. The designs incorporated high-resolution digital imagery of Steve Jobs, Albert Einstein and others into the public corridors.

Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health is a place of hope and healing for young patients and their families. To enhance its welcome to the more than 300,000 children who need compassionate inpatient and outpatient care each year, the hospital sought the help of Artist Walter Knabe and Designer Barbara Eden. The design team was asked to transform an old and heavily traveled passageway into a soothing place that would warmly welcome patients, visitors and staff. Now when moving between two busy areas of the hospital, adults and children alike can enjoy the captivating murals created with Acrovyn by Design. Because of the durable and easily cleanable surface, they will continue to be fresh and vibrant with minimal upkeep.

To meet increasing healthcare demands and growing patient needs, Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children expanded its Delaware campus. Completed in late 2014, the expansion includes new family-centered patient rooms, enhanced family amenities, collaborative team spaces and a new emergency department with 44 exam rooms. Before embarking on the 557,000 square-foot expansion, FKP Architects did some fact finding with those most knowledgeable about kid-friendly environments – local children.
