FAQs
Questions to Consider When Considering Entrance Flooring Options
- What is the climate and weather like in this location? (E.g., rain, snow, wind, dust or sand prevalence, etc.)
- What are the ADA requirements? (As an expert partner, CS can help outline requirements here as well)
- What are the traffic demands at this entrance? (E.g., rolling loads, carts, high foot traffic, forklifts, MRI machines, etc.)
- Does this building need to maintain a high-end or luxury aesthetic throughout?
With entrance flooring and walk-off mat solutions at CS, the sky is the limit. We partner with you to bring any vision to life, creating entrance flooring that enhances the building's design and improves maintenance and safety.

Whether you’re searching for a recessed walk-off mat solution or a surface-mounted solution, you have a wide array of choices, as many CS products can be installed using either mounting option.
If you’re specifically looking for a recessed installation, all CS entrance flooring products either offer this option or are exclusively available as recessed installation.
Both Recessed Walk Off and Surface Mount Options
CS’ entrance mat products (Pedimat®, DesignStep®, Floormations®, and Helix) offer a recessed walk-off mat solution and a surface mat installation.
Recessed Mounting Only
Our grid solutions (Pedigrid® and Peditred®) and stainless-steel grids are available only as a recessed installations.
Aside from design and aesthetic considerations, keep in mind that to adhere to ADA requirements, there cannot be more than a ¼" height transition between the permanent floor and the walk-off mat. This means that for surface-mounted walk off mounts, the mat may not be more than ¼" higher than the permanent floor. There must also be a tapered edge onto the walk-off mat. For recessed walk-off mats, the walk-off mat must remain flush with the permanent floor.
The required depth for the recessed opening depends on the specific frame you select for your product. You can find the exact overall depth needed on the BIM/CAD pages for each product on the specific product’s page (browse all products here).
