Project: Madison Square Garden

Renovation of Madison Square Garden in 2013 brought the fifty-year-old arena into the 21st Century. The new arena had to fit within the existing structure, while offering all the amenities current sports fans expect. For the exterior, Construction Specialties provided custom curved Storm Resistant Vertical Louvers that needed to fit perfectly into the fluted alcoves. Due to the extremely tight radius, special shaped corner louvers were being mounted in pre-cast panels. This necessitated additional engineering and working in conjunction with the steel and precast people to insure a proper fit.

This project is the first air traffic control tower to earn LEED® Silver certification. Keeping with Chicago’s notable architectural heritage, the selected NATCT design is AECOM’s asymmetrical, cantilevered tower. A great addition to the city’s skyline, this tower prominently features C/S Louvers. C/S worked closely with the installer on the custom louver attachment. This unique attachment allows for lateral and rotational adjustment of the louvers giving them the appearance of seamlessly floating away from the structure.

Project: UT Southwestern William P Clements Jr University Hospital
Products: MW-7315
The CS MW-7315 Louver was created as a solution to a problem that came up during the design of The William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital in Texas. The hospital has over 40,000 ft2 of total louver area. During the project design, CS learned that the area behind the 16,000 ft2 of inactive louver is conditioned occupied space. There are laboratories in this area; therefore true wall performance and high R-value are required, which traditional blank off cannot provide. The solution is CS Louver over CENTRIA’s MetalWrap back up insulated panel system. This provides true wall performance without compromising aesthetics. The result is another innovative product, MetalWrap Louvers and Wall System, from the coordinated partnership between CS and CENTRIA.
