Sidwell Friends

Committed to environmental stewardship, Sidwell Friends directed architects Kiernan Timberlake Associates to design a sustainable Middle School facility. The design uses daylight as the foundation of its strategy to minimize energy use. Working with the C/S Sun Control design team, the architects specified four and one half foot deep cantilevered sunshades with 6" airfoil blades for the school’s southern exposure. The sunshades reduce heat and glare and provide filtered light to enter the interior.
