Pedimat

Q. What size are C/S carpet strips?

A. C/S carpet strips are 1 1/4" wide and come in rolls up to 750' in length. C/S can also adjust the width of our carpet strips to replace competitors product. Call factory for color selector and pricing.

Q. What is the average lead-time when ordering a Pedimat/TreadLine?

A. Lead times vary in all manufacturing operations but generally Construction Specialties Inc. is able to ship Pedimat/TreadLine within two and a half weeks from receipt of signed shop drawings. All submittal drawings will provide a proposed lead time. Please contact the factory if expedited service is needed.

Q. How deep should the recessed opening for a Pedimat/TreadLine be?

A. The depth of the recess will ultimately depend on the frame chosen for each application. The following detail pages are frame specific and show the frame depths.

Q. Can I have the frames shipped ahead of the Pedimat/TreadLine?

A. Yes, if the Pedimat/TreadLine is of a standard shape (square or rectangle). The frames for a odd-shaped Pedimat/TreadLine or one with cut outs will be built at the same time as the mat and fit tested for quality assurance before shipping.

Q. What is the maximum size mat available?

A. Pedimat/TreadLine can be built to a maximum of 12' wide or a total of 100 square feet per module. The modules can be installed to an infinate size. Each of the following detail pages contains the weight per square foot for each product. Please keep these weights in mind when requesting very large modules because the mats will eventually need to be removed so that the recess can be cleaned. We do not recommend splices be located in the center of the doorway.

Q. How are the Pedimat/TreadLine sections joined together?

A. They aren't. The shop drawings C/S provided will show the lay out of each section. The installer only has to lay the Pedimat/TreadLine in place as shown on the shop drawings.

Q. Why is your weight capacity listed as a rolling load test?

A. We have found the rolling load test to be the most comprehensive real-life test available. Most entrance mat failures are due to heavy loads being wheeled through an entranceway. The rolling load test utilizes a weighted 5" x 2" solid polyurethane wheel, which passes over the mat 1000 times. To pass the test the unit must withstand the proposed weight without any permanent deformation to the rails or inserts. Alternative testing methods which measure the amount of deflection or the amount of weight per square foot a unit can withstand simply do not offer the real-world severity an entranceway faces daily. For entryways in businesses such as retail outlets, airports, banks, or casinos, rolling load performance is a critical factor. We recommend units with the highest practical loading capability be specified for such entrances. To aid in the decision making process we recommend viewing the selection guide in our full catalog located in the Design Guide section of this manual. The selection guide lists the rolling load data for all C/S mats and grids.

Q. How is the accuracy of a custom shaped Pedimat/TreadLine guaranteed?

A. A high quality custom shaped Pedimat/TreadLine is dependent on the quality of the template. Construction Specialties Inc. offers a free template kit to assist in the process. We also offer an optional guaranteed template service. Contact the factory for a free template kit or to schedule the optional template service.

Q. Do you manufacture custom Pedimat/TreadLine for revolving doors?

A. Since we are Construction Specialties the answer is yes, but we don't recommend it. Installing a mat in a revolving door tends to break the airlock, which negates the energy efficient properties of a revolving door. Instead we recommend specifying DesignStep carpet inside the revolving door and a color coordinated Pedimat/TreadLine before and after it.

Q. Is it possible to use a Pedimat/TreadLine on an ADA compliant ramp?

A. Yes, using our poured abrasive or vinyl inserts you can meet the higher requirement for static coefficient of friction recommended by the ADA. The mat will also need to be mechanically fastened. Please contact the factory with this special request.

Q. In what situations do you recommend a drain and pan?

A. Since the Pedimat/TreadLine is a shallow depth product it is recommended that a trench drain be put in areas of higher than average snow or rainfall. We do not offer a pan for the Pedimat/TreadLine product line.

We also offer an optional factory template service. Contact the factory for a free template kit or to schedule the optional factory template service. Note: Stainless steel grids are not field adjustable therefore it is highly recommended that all stainless steel grids be ordered with the optional factory template service.

Q. Do you manufacture custom grids for revolving doors?

Installing a grid in a revolving door tends to break the airlock, which negates the energy efficient properties of a revolving door. Instead we recommend specifying DesignStep carpet inside the revolving door and a color coordinated grid before and after it.

A. Yes, using our poured abrasive or vinyl inserts you can meet the higher requirement for static coefficient of friction recommended by the ADA. The grid will also need to be mechanically fastened. Please contact the factory with this special request.

Q. In what situations do you recommend a drain and pan?

A. A drain is recommended in areas of higher than average snow or rainfall. We do offer a pan for all grids but including a pan adds costs and complexity to the manufacturing of the unit. We recommend a trench drain set in a level base frame whenever practical.

Q. Why do the installation instructions call for such an oversized recessed block out for frame installation?

A. There are many variables in deciding how to install frame. The field condition and finish floor type are the two most important factors. The standard instruction covers the typical installation where there is an oversized recess to set the frames and then is backfilled with grout. Typically there is a tile, carpet or terrazzo floor that will then be installed to about the installed Pedigrid frame. In the case where there will be exposed concrete adjacent to the installed frame, the choice would be to create a block out of the recess, Option #2 of the frame offerings would then be recommended followed with caulk or grout in the small gap left between the frame and the finished floor.
