Interior Design Instructor’s Pattern Included in Acrovyn by Design® Pattern Collection

Robyn Lee Boettcher, an interior design instructor from Tucson, Arizona, entered the Acrovyn by Design® Patterns Contest to ignite her students’ imaginations at Southwest University of Visual Arts and to demonstrate the importance of participating in design competitions. Her unique, hand drawn pattern won the contest and will be included in the Acrovyn by Design® Pattern Collection, to be launched in November.

Boettcher’s pattern design was among dozens submitted to the contest, which was sponsored by Construction Specialties (CS), a leading manufacturer of specialty building products, and judged by professionals from leading design firms including HOK and ESA.

Boettcher’s timeless pattern design, created with the healthcare market in mind, is literally rooted in biophilia, featuring three vertical lines inspired by trees. In the landscape view, the design is interpreted as the sunset or horizon.

“My hand-drawn pattern brings nature into healthcare and other spaces in a creative way,” said Boettcher. “Placed on a wall where people may wait for a period of time, the pattern allows viewers to participate in the design, constructing their own interpretations.”

Since being awarded the $5,000 cash prize for her winning design, Boettcher has worked closely with internal CS designers to prepare her pattern for inclusion in CS’ Acrovyn by Design® Pattern Collection. This included developing consistent repeatability of a digital version of the design and selection of pattern colorways.

“As we enhance our collection, we involve designers in the creative process,” said Amy Devore, CS Business Unit Manager. “This contest was a celebration of designers and of our commitment to great design that lasts. Starting in November, our pattern collection will feature Robyn’s work within a portfolio created for and by designers.”

“Boettcher’s pattern – appropriately named Forest – demonstrates the customizability of Acrovyn by Design,” said Devore. “The limited Forest features the pattern in colorways of warm taupe/gray, a cool gray, and jade/gold metallic.”
