The San Francisco International Airport became subject of the highest level of seismic safety requirements ever placed on a U.S airport. The five-story terminal is the world's largest base isolated building. A key aspect of the project was the design of seismic joint covers that could accommodate 4-way movement up to 36" with minimal impact on the architect's design. Working with several architectural firms, C/S helped design and detail each of the floor, wall, ceiling and exterior covers. The joints were then tested with the architects present to prove each design would work during an earthquake
