The Cathedral of Christ the Light in Oakland, California, was designed to endure for centuries rather than decades. A base isolated structure, Skidmore Owings and Merril specified C/S SSR Stone Paver Expansion Joint Covers. Covering the moat round the entire structure, the 33" wide cover protects the oval poured-in-place base isolated podium and provides the structure with up to 30" of seismic movement. The stone pavers incorporate limestone pavers that match the building’s main flooring.
