The Consolidated Rental Car facility at Ft. Lauderdale- Hollywood Airport is a nine-story structure totaling 3.5 million square feet. Over 100,000 feet of C/S Decorative Grilles envelope the structure.

Spillis Candela DMJM did not want the Ft. Lauderdale rental facility to look like a typical parking garage. Working with the C/S Grille team, the firm designed a unique imaginative facade for the structure using 3 distinct C/S Grilles.

The 3 grilles specified by Spillis are: C/S Myriad Continuous, a bar grille offering high air exchange; Vert-A-Cade 304, a 6" horizontal pattern that offers excellent site-cutoff, and the Vert-A-Cade 8000, which offers a bold site line.

South Florida codes required C/S to engineer the entire grille system to withstand 150 mph wind loads and wind pressure of 130 lbs per sq. ft. Free areas for ventilation of the facility ranging from 50-70% was another requirement for the grilles.

C/S’ award winning field installation crew worked on the Consolidated Rental Car Facility for nine months in concert with General Contractor Cummings-Centex Rooney. Installation of the C/S Grilles was completed a month ahead of schedule.
